Casa Galicia operate
within a region which is headed at the North by Pontevedra, bordered by
the ancient town of Orense in the East, by the Portugese border in the South
and by the sweeping coastline of the Atlantic to the West. This area
offers dramatic mountains and lush valleys, crystal clear mountain rivers
and streams, eucalyptus forests and amazing fauna, all of which beautifully
frame the stunning, unspoilt coastline.
The coastline. The vibrant and youthful city of Vigo is at the centre of this region. Vigo offers a wide range of facilities, wonderful restaurants, vibrant nightlife and international shopping experiences. Vigo also has an expanding airport serviced regularly by Iberia from Barcelona and other major Spanish cities. To the north of Vigo the coastline is dramatic with sweeping fjord-like bays and exclusive seaside resorts such as Cangas from where a ferry can be taken to Cies Island, recently voted one of Europes most beautiful beaches. It is truly a staggering natural retreat with a beautiful sheltered lagoon of warm aquaramarine waters. To the south is the stunning bay of Baiona which is just a stone's throw from the Portuguese border.
The landscape. We concentrate on searching for properties which have rural surroundings set in breathtaking settings high in the hills within an hour's reach of the coast. This landscape is simply stunning with aqua streams bordered by deep welcoming eucalyptus forests. The mountains change colour by the hour as the sky reflects upon the escarpments and the fauna and heathers are abundant with wildlife and colour in spring. Each village is different but always welcoming. The locals are engaging and want to be engaged with. The local culture and food is simple but simply adorable with an abundance of seafood and local meat dishes. If you're looking for lager and a nightclub hit the exit now! Don't however think this area is backward, not a bit of it, the area is colourful and vibrant and becoming more and more influenced by the city high flyers who are now populating the hinterland.
Further afield, yet within an easy drive are the spectacular city of Santiago De Compestella with its dramatic cathedral and ancient streets, the beautiful town of Orense with its many bridges spanning the river Minho and of course Portugal to the south, another country and culture to explore. There is, quite simply too much to see and do in this area than can be written here, whatever your pastime: golf, horse riding, watersports, you can be assured that each are catered for, with a high-class professional service.
